26 October, 2010 | Report This report is based on the latest published and unpublished ABS data and includes new statistics regarding length of union membership and duration since previously a union member.

For the first time in 20 years, 2009 saw an increase in both union membership and density.  Total membership grew by 4.7% (82,000 members) and overall density rose by around one percent to 19.7%. 

The report is intended to help inform careful planning and concrete actions to grow Australian unions.
